WE ARE WINNING

I suppose that you and your co-horts will cling to your denial of the reality of Iraq till your death. Just as many denied they reality of Viet Nam and failed to learn the lessons that could have saved all the lives lost in Iraq.

How can otherwise well-educated people be so ignorant of basic History. They must have been home-schooled by people who choose to teach History as a theological fantasy rather than dealing with fact.

The action in Iraq ( it is not a war, by our constitution war is entered into only by a Declaration of War by Congress. ) was lost the day it began. Regardless of what radical Islamists say, it is not Al Quida, or any other specific political entity that is "winning" this action. There are no winners in these type of War like military actions, only those who loose less.

You Judified Christians who insit on Godly Just Wars are just as much lunatics as they like of Al Zawahri.

The blood of every person who died in this illegal, ill-concieved, military action is on the hands of those who support the action and of those who are of service age who refuse to place their lives on the line for beliefs they expect others to die for.

Hey Roy, haven't heard from you in a long time. The blog is basically defunct now, I've only been dabbling with it the last couple of months as we've decided to focus our energies on other parts of the Wissahickon.

Couple of thoughts: we lost the Vietnam War because the American people lost their will to wage it. There were plenty of doomsayers back then as there are now, and eventually they won out. So we left, and no doubt the moral preeners congratulated themselves on having opened the ignorant masses' eyes to the folly of the conflict. Of course, tens of thousands of innocent Vietnamese citizens were butchered in the streets as the Viet Cong and NVA rolled through, and today Vietnam is one of the more terrible places on earth one can be doomed to live. But hey, at least there's no more war, there's peace, right? I'm reminded of St. Augustine's phrase he used to describe the Roman Empire's pacification campaigns: 'they created a desert and called it peace.' Vietnam is not at peace as long as its government routinely savages its people.

The situation is the same in Iraq. Under Saddam Hussein bloodbaths were routine, and if we withdraw the killings will spiral out of control. Insurgencies are notoriously difficult to defeat, and we seriously underestimated the strength of this one. But the key to defeating them, as with all campaigns waged in this manner, is to remain utterly implacable; kill or capture the enemy wherever they appear, rebuild the infrastructure and cut the insurgents' popular support out from underneath them, and break their will. Calls for U.S. withdrawal before the fight is won gives hope to the enemy (read al-Zawahiri's latest diatribe if you don't believe me).

Whether you like it or not Roy, the war in Iraq has saved more lives than it has cost. I know that's an upalatable prospect for those like yourself who insist on pristinely moral solutions to all the world's problems, but this world is a dangerous and dark place where too often the best choice has to be the least bad option. Such is the case here.

I'm not sure what a "Judified Christian" is, but your contention that we are just as much as fanatics as al-Zawahiri is supremely ridiculous even by your lofty standards.

I was not home-schooled, and I was a history major in college.

I feel like you would be upset if we actually won this war. Is that true? And what would you, with your prodigious knowledge of history, have done about the Saddam Hussein situation?

I am not responsible for the death of anyone in Iraq; the murderers who drive their car bombs into crowds of children are.

History disagrees. People lost will to fight because it was an unwinable war short of leveling the country.

You are right in one sense, any group of thugs ( not unlike our current adminstration ) can destroy anything. That is not what this country is about - not yet anyhow.

No Follower of Christ can support pre-emptive war. No Follower of Christ can justify use of force or arms to impose a way of life upon another people.

That's a decidedly close-minded approach to the theological implications of pre-emptive war, Roy. I think there are wonderful Christians on both sides of this debate, but perhaps that's because I don't have the courage to claim a monopoloy on God's truth, as you apparently do. Are you really claiming that all non-pacifists are going to hell, that they are not Christians?

I also still am interested to know if you want the U.S. to win this war or not...
